Cryptopsy
None So Vile (Displeased Records) 32:05
1996 CD [BUY] $12
Review: Accelerating the blasting rage of Suffocation style metal, Cryptopsy made a battering tribute to the power of speed and complexity in violence. "None So Vile" represents the most extreme edge of music within the range of popular styles. Raging, shredding guitar in layers of shuddering notes pounds alongside alertly fast percussion, and the band warms up with a sequence of riffs that vary along a central rhythmic and melodic theme. This music is textural, in the style of Deeds of Flesh or Suffocation, where as many different speeds and variants on a rhythm are visited as possible. Excellent heavy metal riffing unobtrusively melds a phrase to a rigid internal rhythm. The celebrated gutpuking of Lord Worm centers the form and concept to this band, but what makes this enjoyable on a routine basis is its intensity and explosiveness.

Production: Thick with range of tone. 1. Crown of Horns
2. Slit your guts
3. Graves of the fathers
4. Dead and dripping
5. Benedictine convulsions
6. Phobophile
7. Lichmistress
8. Orgiastic disembowelment
