Review: Contorted avantgarde hardcore with jazz fusion stylings and erratic violent playing brings hardcore music to the shattered consciousness of modern existence. Like the rigorous slam metal (Pantera) resembling it, this work uses interrupted but continual motion of hard-edged downstrumming for consistency. Within that framework it unveils a vision of postmodern hardcore as free jazz. Like other progressive metalcore bands, Human Remains relentlessly assault the listener with broken sound. The result flowers with tactical percussion charging dissonant agile-fingered guitar riffing, and while dependence on rhythmic emphasis reduces melodic freedom, explosive interludes of free form lead playing add texture. Shrieked vocals offset tight drum and bass internal rhythm and foreshadow changes. Jazz influence shows in lead guitar and drum arrangement while vibrant hardcore shines from its foundation.
